Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Newark Valley Community Connection! As we celebrate Independence Day during America's 250th anniversary year, we're reminded that one of our nation's greatest strengths has never been found only in historic moments or famous leaders, but by ordinary people who choose to serve their neighbors. Long before there were large organizations or government programs, communities were built by ordinary people who gave their time, shared their talents, and looked out for one another, freedom has always flourished alongside community. Through our nation's and this community's history, neighbors have cared for neighbors whether through church groups, civic organizations, sports leagues, and more. That same spirit is continues today through volunteers who strengthen our own community, and you can see that alive here at Newark Valley Community Connection.

This year, as America celebrates 250 years of independence, we're proud to carry on that tradition and reminded every day that a strong community is built by people who generously share their time and talents. That's why we're proud to recognize one of our dedicated volunteers, Cheryl Utter, a retired floral designer.

If you've attended one of our events, chances are you've seen Cheryl with a smile on her face, helping prepare and serve meals or stepping in wherever an extra pair of hands is needed. Cheryl is one of those dependable volunteers we can count on at nearly every event. She says one of the things she enjoys most about volunteering is the camaraderie that comes from working alongside others while making a positive difference in our community.

When she's not volunteering, Cheryl enjoys another passion—photography, along with crafting and up-cycling. Many people look forward to the beautiful bird photographs she shares on social media, capturing the beauty of nature and reminding us to appreciate the world around us.

Thank you, Cheryl, for your dedication, kindness, and the countless ways you help make Newark Valley Community Connection a welcoming place for everyone.

As we prepare for our Stars, Stripes and Strides 5K Patriotic Fun Run during Newark Valley Summerfest on July 25th, we're celebrating more than a race. We're celebrating 250 years of the American Tradition of neighbors helping neighbors, communities coming together, and volunteers making a difference.

Have you ever considered volunteering? Whether you have an hour a month or a few hours each week, we'd love to welcome you. Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with others, meet new people, build friendships, while building a stronger community. Give us a call at 607-308-1503 or message us at newarkvalleycc@gmail.com to get started.
